Introduction to Accounting I (3-3-4)

 

Course Description

 

A study of analyzing, classifying, and recording business transactions in a manual and computerized environment. Emphasis on understanding the complete accounting cycle and preparing financial statements, bank reconciliations, and payroll.  TSI Requirement: M1; R2; W1   Prerequisite: None  Lab Fee: $24

Learning Outcomes 

 

The following learning outcomes will be addressed in this course:

  1. To offer students the opportunity to develop a strong background for those planning more advanced studies in accounting.
  2. To prepare those students entering the job market in accounting with a working knowledge of accounting terms and accounting theories.
  3. To give those students beginning other careers, such as clerical, secretarial, technical, sales and management positions a practical background in accounting.

19. make corrections before and after posting
20. correct an entry posted to the wrong account
21. use transaction analysis on the trial balance

In order to be successful in this Internet class, student should be able to spend 4 hours a day on the course, which includes reading assignments, videos, and quizzes and anything else assigned by instructor

It is the student's responsibility to drop a course by the appropriate deadline. If a student fails to drop the course, even if the student does not attend the class, he/she will receive a grade of "F" in the course.   Read the Six Course Drop Rule policy found on you class homepage.

Course Evaluation

 

Grades in this course will be determined using a point system.

Points will be accumulated for each of the following; examinations, laboratory assignments, quizzes, a group project, attendance and participation.

Course Policies

 

Plagiarism, the representation of someone else’s work as your own, or cheating on an examination or lab work will not be tolerated. Either case will result in a grade of zero on the work or examination in question. The second incident will be reported to the Dean of Instructional Services for disciplinary action.
